How Unridden works.
Unridden evaluates each ride/ski day you do against the set of trails and runs — as Unridden defines them — that are available in the system. Think of it as a game: it might even nudge you to ride or ski in a slightly different way than you used to.
How a trail or run counts
To get credit for a trail or run, you must cover its entire length in a single activity. We do not accumulate partial efforts and combine them — you must cover the full trail or run, as defined in Unridden.
- GPS variance — your track needs to overlap most of its length. We allow for GPS error, and for the fact that ski runs are wide and are often entered from the side partway down.
- Bi-directional / two-way trails can be ridden in either direction — you only need to ride one direction for it to count.
- Your equipment does not matter — any bike (we do not differentiate acoustic vs. e-bike), any skis, any board.
- Lift-served ski areas also count lifts. Completing an area means covering every required run and riding every required lift — an area with no lifts completes on runs alone.
- Snow sports are tracked by season, mountain biking by calendar year. A ski season runs 1 July to 30 June, so a winter is never split across two tallies, and your area progress starts fresh each 1 July. Mountain bike progress runs on the calendar year and starts fresh each 1 January. Either way this only affects the per-year progress you see on an area — see below for how lifetime tallies work.
Closed trails and runs
Please don't ride or ski closed terrain. Unridden does its best to know when a trail or run is closed, and will not give credit for covering it during a closure.
Aside from standard seasonal closures, status can be hard to stay on top of. If you find the status (closed vs. open) of a trail or run is incorrect, please let us know.
Achievements, badges & prizes
Achievements, badges, and prizes are primarily evaluated on an annual basis, but we also keep all your results from year to year to show a lifetime tally.
For example, you could earn a badge for completing an area each year you complete it — and your lifetime stats would show how many years you've completed that area.
Specific terms and conditions for prizes are covered where those prizes are available.
